With the SmartThings Know and Control Kit, everyday objects, electrical devices, and small appliances can be both monitored and activated/deactivated from your smartphone or tablet. Units connected to the SmartThings system can still be used manually, but gain the added ability to monitor and control the things connected to your SmartThings Hub directly from your pocket. This means users can stay up to date and know what's going on back home from anywhere.
How It Works
The Know and Control Your Home Kit comes with a central Hub that plugs into your Internet router and wirelessly communicates with several included sensors. After downloading the free SmartThings mobile app and entering in the activation code found in your Kit, you can place these sensors on any number of different things that are important to you around your home, at your job, or in your car. Customize each of your included sensors to notify you when important things happen, to turn on and off when different events happen, and to help make your life easier. Additionally, users can pair SmartThings with other Z-Wave or ZigBee devices to create a fully integrated home control dashboard.

After downloading the free SmartThings app, users will see a“Getting Started” section that contains short and simple video tutorials to walk them through the setup process. The Kit also contains a brief pamphlet filled with installation tips and detailed directions showing how users can sync each of their included sensors to the SmartThings Hub. Most users can generally complete the setup process in 20 minutes or less. Users require a dedicated Ethernet connection for the SmartThings Hub, and an accompanying power outlet.
